Parking & Main Street

Downtown Sturgis becomes bike-only for most of rally week. Getting in, parking, and moving around is different than any other trip you'll take. Here's the mindset.

Main Street is a cruise, not a road

During peak rally days, Main Street runs as a slow, one-direction motorcycle cruise between Junction Ave and Sherman St. Cars are typically routed out. If you're on a bike, expect a rolling parade — not a shortcut. The full lay of the downtown strip is mapped on our Downtown page.

How to park (and think about parking)

  • Bikes park diagonally along the Main Street curbs in designated moto-only zones. Arrive early morning or mid-afternoon for the best odds.
  • Side streets one or two blocks off Main are almost always easier and only add a short walk.
  • In a truck or SUV? Park on the outer edges of downtown and walk in — driving deep into the grid during rally is a losing game.
  • Riding two-up with gear? Stage jackets and helmets in your saddlebags before you park so you're not juggling on the sidewalk.
Official Main Street parking rules and closures shift year to year. Check the City of Sturgis rally page the week you arrive.

Walk everywhere once you're in

Once you're downtown, walk. Vendor rows spread across multiple blocks. The Rally Point plaza is the informational anchor and a good meet-up landmark. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum sits mid-Main and is worth an hour off the sidewalk.

Where to actually stop

Leave more time than you think

Ten minutes on the map is thirty in reality. Getting in, parking, walking to your destination, and finding your bike again all take longer than any other weekend in Sturgis. Plan meet-ups with a 20–30 minute buffer.
