## The Route

Spearfish, SD → Cheyenne Crossing, Lead, SD

## What to Expect

US-14A from Spearfish to Cheyenne Crossing. Fast, flowing curves under 1,000-ft canyon walls. Bridal Veil Falls, Roughlock Falls and Spearfish Falls all sit right off the road. Cool even in August — bring a layer.

## Ride Brief

### Skill Level

Beginner-friendly. Smooth, wide pavement with predictable sweepers — the easiest of the big-name Black Hills rides.

### Fuel

Fuel in Spearfish or Lead — nothing in the canyon itself. 22 mi with no pumps.

### Food Along the Way

Cheyenne Crossing at the south end for legendary breakfast; Latchstring Restaurant mid-canyon at Spearfish Canyon Lodge.

### Best Time to Ride

Mid-morning through late afternoon. Canyon holds cool air even on 95° days.

## Watch Out For

- ! Rock fall onto the road after storms
- ! Sudden temperature drop entering the canyon
- ! Bicyclists on shoulders
