The Route

Sturgis, SD → Devils Tower National Monument, WY

What to Expect

I-90 west from Sturgis to Sundance, WY, then WY-24 north. Rolling grasslands, then the Tower rises out of nowhere. Prairie dog town at the base, easy 1.3-mile paved loop trail around it if you want to stretch.

Ride Brief

Skill Level

Easy but long. Interstate miles and open two-lane; wind and monotony are the real challenge, not the road itself.

Fuel

Top off in Sundance (halfway). Hulett has one small pump. Ride ends 220 mi round trip — plan two fuel stops.

Food Along the Way

Ponderosa Cafe in Hulett is the biker stop. Devils Tower Trading Post at the base has burgers and ice cream.

Best Time to Ride

Leave Sturgis at 7am. Beat the heat, beat the tour buses, and have the Tower to yourself.

Watch Out For

  • !Sustained crosswinds on I-90 and WY-24
  • !Deer on WY-24 at dawn/dusk
  • !Long stretch of no cell service past Sundance
